Consultant Plastic Surgeon

Welcome to the web site of Mr Ankur N Pandya, Consultant Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon.

Ankur Pandya qualified as a doctor in 1985. He spent the next four years in a number of surgical specialties as part of a basic surgical rotation (general surgery, paediatric surgery, hepatobiliary and endocrine surgery).

The exposure to a variety of subspecialties provided a great opportunity for acquiring a broad based experience in the diagnosis and management of emergency and elective, minor and major surgical problems. Following repeated exposure to plastic surgery as a result of referrals and interaction, he developed an interest in this field, the challenges that it posed, it's varied spectrum and the creative opportunities that it offered. As a result he decided to pursue a career in this discipline.
He was awarded the Fellowships of the Scottish Colleges in 1993 - FRCS(Ed) FRCS(Glas).

He went on to have extensive training in plastic surgery, initially abroad for five years and then over seven years at East Grinstead (The Queen Victoria Hospital), Oxford (Radcliffe Infirmary), Aylesbury (Stoke Mandeville Hospital) and Stevenage (Lister Hospital). This included training in cosmetic, breast, hand, paediatric plastic surgery, use of lasers and treatment of skin cancers.

On finishing his training he was awarded the Intercollegiate Fellowship in Plastic Surgery FRCS(Plast) in 1998 and received his Certificate of Completion of Specialist training in April 2001. He obtained the European Qualification in Hand Surgery in 2005.

He was appointed as a consultant in October 2001 at the Royal Haslar Hospital Gosport and The Queen Alexandra Hospital Portsmouth. He took over as the NHS consultant for Chichester (St Richard's Hospital) in May 2003. He took over as Clinical Director of Plastic Surgery in June 2003.

He has clinical interests in all aspects of plastic surgery, especially aesthetic, reconstructive, hand and paediatric surgery. He is a member of the British Association of Plastic Surgeons and the British Society for Surgery of the Hand, and has presented and published papers on aesthetic, hand, general plastic surgery and burn injury. He has also made contributions to textbooks in plastic surgery.

His current spectrum of work includes cosmetic surgery, breast reconstruction and other surgery following cancer, hand surgery, the surgical management of skin lesions and paediatric plastic surgery.

He has recently been appointed onto the faculty of Southampton Univ. School of Medicine and is an examiner for the University as well as the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is currently undertaking a Diploma in Postgraduate Medical Education with the University of Dundee
